Bio of Rev. Lawrence C. Kirk
Lawrence C. Kirk was born March 24, 1953 in Oklahoma City, OK, the eldest of two children of Earl & Pearl Kirk. As a child, he was baptized and reared at St. John Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. W. K. Jackson. He married the former Beverly Huggins in 1974 after their high school and college courtship. They placed their membership at the Loving St. James Baptist Church in Spencer, OK. Rev. Kirk preached his first sermon in 1979, and was thereby licensed and ordained by his Pastor, Rev. W. B. Parker.
While rearing his family, Rev. Kirk worked as a customer service representative for EDS and Fiserv Computer Service. Rev. Kirk enthusiastically served the St. James Church family as a Sunday School Teacher, Evangelism Leader, Marriage Ministry leader, Prison Fellowship Facilitator and Men’s Ministry leader. In 1988, he completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and in 1991 he began working full-time as the assistant pastor to Rev. W. B. Parker. With the heart of a faithful steward, Rev. Kirk applied his business administrative skills to every area of the Lord’s church body. He received a Master of Divinity Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas in 2002. He received his doctorate degree December 8, 2017 from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.
Rev Kirk is best known for his attitude of service, and an abounding joy in serving God along with his dynamic preaching and leadership style. In 2002, he answered the call to serve as Director of Christian Education at St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. M.L. Jemison, Pastor. His coaching, teaching, writing and administrative tasks include supervising Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Singles Ministry, Marriage Ministry, Grief Ministry, Evangelism, Men’s Ministry, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, Wednesday Night Bible Study, he also serves as an instructor and Director of The Johnson Memorial Bible Institute.
Throughout the years, relatives and friends have asked – and instinctively known – whenever this husband and daddy had to leave early or be absent: he was “at church”! Rev Kirk maintains a busy schedule facilitating leadership and teacher training conferences, marriage enrichment seminars and speaking engagements throughout Oklahoma. His counseling sessions are Bible-centered and tackle the most common problems facing families in order to provide them with sound practical advice. He currently is an adjunct instructor for Mid America Christian University, University of Phoenix, and Oklahoma Baptist University. Rev. Kirk’s objective is to glorify God through his personal life and family, to serve the local and extended church and to witness to the world about Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Rev. Kirk is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and the National Center for Fathering.
Rev. Kirk and his wife Beverly have been married for forty-four years; have two beautiful daughters, Mrs. Lawry (Kornell) Shabazz and Kandaace; one son, Anthony (Shareese); and six grandchildren. Rev. Kirk can be reached via e-mail at email@example.com
