The Excell Project was formulated in 2007 when through Title I grant funds was awarded to the SJCCC by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the OKCPS.   The purpose of the Excell Project was threefold:  1) to assist the administrators at Douglass High School and Northeast Academy in enrolling students in the Oklahoma Promise (OKPromise) Scholarship Program; 2) to provide ACT preparation to help the students attain an adequate score for college acceptance; and, 3) engage students in college readiness activities, i.e., college fair; OKPromise hour lunch enrichment and other activities which assist students in college planning.  The Regents grant was a five year grant and expired in June, 2011.  Through the efforts of Excell, 604 OKPromise applications have been submitted to the Regents for processing!  Excell continues to enroll students at Douglass High School in the OKPromise program via a grant with the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma, Inc.

Additionally, Excell, through its partnership with Competitive Edge, Inc., continue to provide ACT Practice to students in grades 7 through12.  Practice makes perfect!  The intervention of ACT practice has resulted in students increasing their ACT composite score by 40% or more!  We’ve experienced students increasing their score from 18 to 26, which is a score that meet college admission and scholarship criteria.

ACT Practice Sessions on held on a seasonal basis and include the ACT Practice Test and two (2) instructional workshops.  Workshop includes instructions in ACT Tested Areas (English, Math, Science and Reading).  Each workshop will address 2 subjects and will be approximately 1.5 hours in duration.  Students will receive online practice test and class support during all sessions.
